Back To the Basics: Technology-Free Hobbies
Starting to wish you had something other than TV shows or social media to capture your attention? We can all agree, modern day technology is amazing, but everyone needs a break from staring at their screen. Technology-free hobbies are where it’s at. Here are three analog boredom-destroyers that you can do right from our Northridge apartments.
Crossword Puzzles
Pick up your local newspaper or grab a crossword book from the grocery store (usually stocked under the magazines) and dive in! Crossword puzzles will keep you occupied for hours. Plus, they have the added bonus of improving your vocabulary and keeping your mind sharp. If regular crossword puzzles aren't your style, check out themed ones and test your own knowledge on all of your favorite topics. Crosswords don't have to be a solitary endeavor either — grab a family member or roommate or FaceTime a friend and test their knowledge.
Coloring
Coloring isn't just for kids anymore. In recent years the hype around adult coloring books and apps has exploded, and now is a perfect time to jump in on the trend. It will keep you distracted for hours, and when you finish that page the sense of satisfaction is incomparable. But what should you do with the page once you have finished? Give it away to a friend, write a letter on the back and snail mail it, or hang it up on your wall if you're really proud!
Puzzles
If our social media feeds are accurate, puzzles are making a real comeback. With different levels and sizes, there are options for everyone. To make your puzzle experience especially sweet, order a personalized puzzle with your favorite photo on it. Once completed, you can use Mod Podge to glue it together, and voilà — the perfect gift or wall decoration. To make it more social, put together a puzzle club (think Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants)! Pass the puzzle along through your friend group or family and see who can complete it fastest.
These new technology-free hobbies will give your eyes a break and challenge your mind. When you’re done, make sure to check out our blog on things you can learn while social distancing. If you’re interested in apartments near CSUN, contact us for more information about our community.
